Beauty in Dark Places Empty Beauty in Dark Places

Post  Zero Tue Jun 08, 2010 8:07 am

Why is society so bent on finding the most beautiful thing? Hollywood is just black and white, not cute, like pink and blue. It’s become a sad cycle that’s been occurring for many years. Even today little girls look on the television and see the most “hottest” trend… They become so brainwashed, almost as if they’ve become some sort of zombie. There’s a masked beauty hidden in the darkest and most unlikely places. The darkest places are the things that do not seem to be evident in society’s society.

Even in high school the popular kids are the ones who are picked first, show up to every pep rally, and are on every page of the yearbook. The rest of us are just the background, but without being the backbone of society, the thing that stands in front of the picture becomes so worthless without the other things to support it. They become so lifeless, as if they have nothing to thrive on their popularity. Without our abnormalities, normality would become non-existent.

But to think those people as normal human beings would be a stretch too far. Being awkward is fun and exciting. You’re not a clone or a zombie, and you allow yourself to do the things you never thought you’d be able to do. You discover new things that seem more real to you. Instead of thinking just “outside the box”, the box is no more than just a single dotted spectacle that seems so far away. In reality the world we live in isn’t everyone else’s. Yes, as overly cheesy as it sounds, you control your own destiny. Unfortunately real beauty has lost its place in the world. People are overwhelmed by materialistic things that make no sense. Beauty is wearing mask, shaded grey, and nothing to say or speak for it. The only place it lingers is in the darkness where it is long and almost forgotten. We see beauty on the appearance of a young woman. Some of these women have gorgeous hair, and cake-faced makeup that that stand out. The promotion of this kind of “beauty” is so overbearing. We see the same thing in the magazine, and on the television day in and day out. And Photoshop?! If beauty was a real woman, she would shake her head in disappointment at the world’s corruption. But if beauty was a man, he would feel the same way. The media has portrayed unrealistic expectations for men, trying to morph these people into these superficial images of rock hard muscles. As if these people are just one short step away from turning into the incredible hulk. What is this form of beauty? Is it the true ugly of Lucifer’s tail? More like a full out imposter! The most unexpected and most hidden things that we see are really the things that are beautiful. Like a precious pearl hidden in a dark underwater cave. It can’t be taken or manipulated in any way. There is no way unless you somehow manage to get more closer, more intimate with this precious pearl, and then you will finally see more than just its outer shell. Like the eerie quintessence of a silent fog. It lingers on an empty and dusky highway. “She walks in beauty like the night” (William Shakespeare). Beauty resides in the darkness, and takes shelter from the mainstream of society.
